Kion Group

It all began with an idea.

With the rise of the shared economy, Kion Group saw a strategic opportunity to be the first rental and sharing platform for B2B equipment. Equivvy, their corporate startup, is a digital marketplace where fleet owners can share and rent equipment. The mission: to help customers improve their equipment utilization and reduce the environmental impact of their fleet.

Two-Sided Marketplace

As a first mover, our approach was to build a marketplace with forklifts as the initial type of equipment to test and learn in a closed beta with 3 customers in France, enabling them to share internally across locations and rent from dealers.

The core piece of the experience we needed to figure out first was the rental process. The marketplace shifted a rental process that was currently relationship to a digital self-service experience.

DESIGN HIGHLIGHT

Renting Equipment

During the research phase we uncovered a number of key insights. The first was that customers wanted to be seen as the experts. We also learned that trust and dependability are key – logistics is a time sensitive industry and there are massive repercussions if the right equipment is not there or breaks. And lastly, the experience needed to be informative but there is information overload. Striking the balance between the two would be key.
